An Estimated 10 Million People Suffer from TMD

The TMJ (temporomandibular joint) is a flexible joint that connects the lower jaw to the skull by the ears on either side of your head, to allow you to move your mouth as you chew or speak. While the main cause of TMJ disorder (TMD) is unknown, it has been linked to teeth grinding or clenching, osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. Without diagnosis, over time, the effects can become debilitating for the patient as they consistently struggle with:

  • Limited jaw and mouth mobility
  • Clicking or popping sounds when opening and closing the mouth
  • Frequent headaches or neck pain
  • Jaw getting stuck or locked in the open or closed position
  • Pain or tenderness around the ear, neck, shoulder or jaw areas

Stop Living with the Pain and Discomfort

If you are struggling with the symptoms of TMJ disorder, Dr. Jeremy Wehrman can help. By seeking treatment at our office, we can help you alleviate the pain and frustration you have been dealing with. Depending on your unique needs and specific situation, Dr. Wehrman may recommend an occlusal adjustment or BOTOX® treatment to address your TMJ concerns.

Treatment Options to Address Your Needs

Occlusal Adjustment

TMJ disorder may be a result of an improper bite that puts too much stress on the joint. In these cases, Dr. Wehrman can even out your bite with an occlusal adjustment so the teeth fit together properly. This is accomplished by smoothing out the surface areas of the teeth to eliminate any interference where they meet.

BOTOX®

BOTOX® is often thought of as a cosmetic enhancement, but it has been proven effective in treating jaw pain, migraine headaches, teeth grinding, and lockjaw. Dr. Wehrman injects the solution directly into the facial muscles to reduce the frequency and intensity of muscle contractions that contribute to TMJ pain. Dr. Wehrman is a certified BOTOX® provider and offers this treatment right in our office.
