A porcelain crown is used to entirely cover or "cap" a damaged tooth. Besides strengthening a damaged tooth, a crown can be used to improve its appearance, shape or alignment. At Smile Solutions, we use porcelain crowns which are bonded to Zirconia. Zirconia is a high-tech ceramic material. It is characterized by its outstanding stability and biocompatibility, meaning it does not adversely react to your gums or bone, as some metal materials do. These crowns offer the highest strength level, excellent esthetic appearance and precision fit. Some porcelain crowns are fitted to metal and a black line may be visible around the crown. The crowns used at Smile Solutions contain no metal, so they appear completely natural.

A porcelain bridge may be recommended if you are missing one or more teeth. Gaps left by missing teeth eventually cause the remaining teeth to rotate or shift into the empty spaces, resulting in a bad bite. Bridges span the space where the teeth are missing. Porcelain veneers are thin pieces of porcelain which are cemented over the front of the teeth. Veneers are used to change the color or shape of the teeth. They can be used on chipped, discolored, oddly-shaped, unevenly-spaced or crooked teeth. Porcelain veneers need very little preparation to the teeth. Little or no anesthesia is required.
Porcelain inlays/onlays are fillings made of porcelain that are bonded into or onto a cavity preparation. These types of fillings are custom made in two visits to give a natural look to a larger filling.
A filling is a way to restore a tooth damaged by minor decay back to its normal function and shape. Fillings also prevent further decay by closing off spaces where bacteria can enter. Smile Solutions uses primarily composite or tooth-colored fillings. This filling material is matched to the same color as your teeth and therefore creates a natural appearance. Dental implants are metal posts that are surgically positioned into the jawbone beneath your gums. Once in place, we are able to cement a crown or bridge onto the implant. Because implants fuse to your jawbone, they provide stable support for artificial teeth. Dentures and partials mounted to implants do not slip or shift in your mouth. They also function more naturally. This is an important benefit when eating and speaking. Ordinary partials and dentures are simply not comfortable or even possible for some people. This is due to sore spots, poor ridges, or gagging. In addition, with implants no adjacent teeth must be prepared or ground down in order to hold your new replacement teeth in place. Top of page.
